Committee Members

Makerspace YK is looking for volunteer Committee members.

Committees offer lots of different ways to get involved with Makerspace YK – from overseeing finances, to building projects in our woodshop, to planning fun events. There’s a wide range of things going on, so if you’re community-minded, creative, handy, smart, or just like helping out, there’s probably a spot for you!

What kind of Committee can I join?

Our various Committees include:

• Finance Committee – Chaired by the Treasurer, this group will support the Executive Director with financial management and oversee the financial health of the organization.
• Governance Committee – Calling all policy wonks! This Committee is tasked with reviewing and updating our Society’s policies, and also with creating some new ones.
• Membership Committee (Fellowship of the Things) – Do you wish you could have more of a say in how paying members can access our space? Join this group to help design our membership structures, plan gatherings and perks, and help get the word out.
• Shopspace Committee (Shop Crew)– This group will be formed from a hardy band of at-least-slightly experienced DIYers, through to woodworking gurus, who will help keep our woodshop in tip-top shape and even come up with ways to introduce the craft to those less seasoned.
• Fundraising & Events Committee (Bills & Thrills)– This is for Yellowknife community members who love being Yellowknife community members and want to see even more Yellowknife community stuff happening! Also known as the Party Planning Committee, this group will plan and participate in parties of all shapes and sizes.
• Artspace Committee – This one doesn’t even exist right now! Do you want to help re-convene a Committee of professional or aspiring artists and come up with ways to make our space work for you? (If not, no worries.)

Not sure if you’re up to the task? Think again. Training opportunities might be part of the deal.

How do I find out more?

Join our Annual General Meeting at 3pm on Saturday September 7th at Makerspace YK. Our address is 5001 Forrest Drive. The AGM will be followed by live music and some ways to imbibe. In case you need more incentive, there will be snacks.

I’ve never heard of Makerspace YK. What the heck is it?

Makerspace YK is a Yellowknife-based non-profit Society whose mission is to build community around hands-on skills. We operate a digital fabrication lab (Hackspace), a multi-use Artspace, and a community woodshop, which we also call the Shopspace. We’ve got spaces galore for fabricating, for festivities, for fun and friendship, and for becoming a fantastic volunteer!
