Looking for Board Members!

Makerspace YK is looking for volunteer Directors to serve on our governance board. We are seeking Yellowknifers with a strong sense of volunteerism who are looking to play a leadership role in the community. If you have an active interest in community development, entrepreneurship, or arts and culture, this may be the opportunity for you.

Why Join our Board?

  • Develop your personal and professional skills. Along with getting practice in a leadership role, Board members will be invited to Board training sessions.
  • Meet new people. You’ll join a network of like-minded individuals who are passionate about Making and about making our community better.
  • Help shape the community. Makerspace YK is a young (5 years old) and vibrant organization that aims to offer new services and resources to residents of Yellowknife. There’s lots of room for growth, so bring all your fresh ideas (and change-making energy)!

Time Commitment
5-10 hours a month

Term
2 Years, with a possibility of renewal.

Key Responsibilities:

As a board member you will:

  • Actively participate in board meetings and the Annual General Meeting, engage in committee work and strategic planning
  • Sit on at least one committee.
  • Support the organization’s strategic development.
  • Make legal, financial and reputational decisions for the organization and assess related risks.
  • Ideally, bring experience as well as expertise in one of the following areas:
    Legal
    Fundraising
    Financial Management / Accounting / Audit / Compliance
    Strategic Planning and Management
    Program Planning and Evaluation
    Digital Technology
    Construction and trades
